Prenatalny okres życia człowieka
2020
The Legitimacy Paradox of Business Schools: Losing by Gaining?
2015
In recent years, many scholars have argued that business schools have jeopardized their legitimacy and identity. However, business schools have also been praised as a success story of higher educat...
Modular Service Design of Information Technology-Enabled Services
2022
The literature has proposed ways to modularize information-technology-enabled services (ITeS) with limited success. We argue that applying design principles (DPs) can address this gap and revitalize the service modularization literature. With a qualitative research study, we develop exemplar DPs and a set of prioritized DPs for ITeS. We contribute to the literature by demonstrating how complex service systems, specifically ITeS, can be modularly designed. Our DPs show how different ITeS design elements or service attribute combinations impact the outcome-driven design of service experience. Based on the findings, we present a modular service design framework and a service design method tha…
INDUSTRIES IN CENTRAL AND EASTERN EUROPE ARE MAKING STRIDES TOWARD SERVITIZATION
2014
This paper is intended to examine, without empirical evidence, the way industries in Central and Eastern Europe are heading toward convergence of knowledge-intensive sectors. Emboldened by European Union’s commitment to become the world’s most competitive entity, industries in the new member countries are phasing out low skilled labor-intensive activities such as subcontracting of final assembly, concomitantly trying to integrate skilled labor-intensive inputs in production. Following a powerful trend that is manifest in global manufacturing, firms in the region are endeavoring to enhance the value of their offerings by providing knowledge-intensive services in addition to physical products…

The Human Right to Social Security and Its Impact on Socio-Political Action in Germany and Finland
2017
Social human rights have rarely been given attention in social work research or comparative studies on welfare states. The paper aims at filling the gap by analysing the conception of human beings inherent in human rights and in unemployment policy documents in Germany and Finland. Its focus lies on the right to social security, a central norm of the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights. The main question is what impact does the right to social security have on socio-political action in Germany and Finland. The results of the analysis, which was based on the objective hermeneutics, revealed a structural similarity between the conceptions of human beings in both cou…
DESIGN OF SF3B1 SUBUNIT MODULATORS OF THE SF3B SPLICEOSOME COMPLEX
2022
The subject of this dissertation is the search for new therapeutic strategies for pancreatic cancer and aims to implement a Drug Discovery process for the rational design and synthesis of molecules active in the modulation of pathways related to the regulation of pre-mRNA splicing process. This research project is the result of a joint PhD between the University of Palermo, Italy, and the Department of Medical Oncology, VU University Medical Center, Amsterdam, The Netherlands. It integrates complementary skills in pharmaceutical chemistry and translational cancer research with a special focus on the rational design of new anticancer compounds potentially active on SF3B1 (Splicing Factor 3B …
TP53 mutations and S-phase fraction but not DNA-ploidy are independent prognostic indicators in laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma
2005
To prospectively evaluate the prognostic significance of TP53, H-, K-, and N-Ras mutations, DNA-ploidy and S-phase fraction (SPF) in patients affected by locally advanced laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma (LSCC). Eight-one patients (median follow-up was 71 months) who underwent resective surgery for primary operable locally advanced LSCC were analyzed. Tumor DNA was screened for mutational analysis by PCR/SSCP and sequencing. DNA-ploidy and SPF were performed by flow cytometric analyses. Thirty-six patients (44%) had, at least, a mutation in the TP53 gene. Of them, 22% (8/36) had double mutations and 3% (1/36) had triple mutations. In total, 46 TP53 mutations were observed. The majority (41…

A DISSECTION'S GUIDE TO HUMAN ABDOMINAL CAVITY
2020
The purpose of this article is to show the abdominal cavity's dissection method. In the summer of 2018 a group of students from the University of Palermo, who had already taken the anatomy exam and had good knowledege of English, went for a period of two weeks to do a dissection course at the University of malta. The students dissected skin, subcutaneously, muscle layers, parietal peritoneum and abdominal organs. this works proves to be a small dissection guide for young medical students who want to learn the main bases of dissection and important information for topographical anatomy.
